Dr Kaine Ikwueke

Dr. Kaine Ikwueke is a senior partner and lead GP principal in an NHS medical practice in London for 25yrs. Dr. Ikwueke attended the University of Ibadan as a university scholar and graduated in 1974 with distinctions in Pathology and Public Health.

He joined the Medical Unit at the London Hospital, Whitechapel (Now known as the Royal London Hospital) under Professor J Ledingham, where he studied and obtained his Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) in Medicine. Dr. Ikwueke developed a special interest in Cardiology and carried out extensive research in non-invasive cardiology at St Mary’s Hospital Medical School and contributed to a chapter in a book on Cardiac Doppler.


Dr. Ikwueke was appointed Senior Lecturer and later promoted to Associate Professor of Medicine and Cardiology at the University of Jos, Nigeria where he established the cardiology unit. He held an honorary Consultant Physician post at the University of Jos Teaching hospital where he supervised the training of undergraduate medical students and postgraduate training. 
On return to the UK in the early nineties, he took up a position of Lecturer in Medicine at Kings College Hospital at Dulwich.

Dr. K Ikwueke has been innovative and research-oriented throughout his practice life. He ran the Community Oriented Primary Care research project from his practice over several years and published several academic papers. He was a leading innovator in the monitoring of hypertensive patients in the community.

As an elected member of the LMC for Haringey, he represents the interests of general practitioners,  a role which he has continued to the present day. As a member of the Haringey LMC he made a presentation in support of the extended 4 year GP training program at the national LMC conference in Edinburgh in 2017.

He is interested in medical management and was first elected to the PCG (Primary Care Group) when general practice management was first rolled out to general practitioners. He rose to become a member of the Professional Executive Committee where he became the Clinical Governance Lead for Haringey and a member of the Board of Governors of the PCT. He was joint Head of the Haringey South East Collaborative when this was created.

He was a mentor and a GP appraiser, a position he gave up when he rose to become the Clinical Governance Lead. He has a passion for medical education and has an arrangement for the teaching of medical students in his medical practice. 


As a community role model, he has encouraged and provided opportunities for work experience in the surgery to a substantial number of students who have gone on to qualify as medical doctors. 
He is married and has children. 


His wife retired as deputy's head after 25 years in the teaching profession. Dr. Ikwueke has exceptional commitment and devotion to his patients who in turn hold him in very high regard and respect.
